Politics

I am not one that particularly likes to voice my political thoughts or opinions for the world to see but in recent events with the election and witnessing it all from Eastern Europe there is something I do feel inclined to share. I have been in Hungary for the past couple of days and in the Hostel that I am at there are quite a few guys from the UK and other parts of Europe. The last couple of days we have talked a lot about the election and what was going on. All of them have the same opinion that Barack should be President. And yes I am a Democrat and agree with them but what I found interesting is how they expressed the feelings that if McCain won how pretty much all of Europe would not be happy with the U.S. They put it this way, 3 strikes and you are out, and I am glad that we are not out.

Even though a lot of Republicans, and most of my family, are not happy about Barack winning I must say that I have seen a lot of positive feedback from people internationally and I think that it will gain us a lot more respect and build up some good rapport internationally, which we could very well use.

Oh, and tonight when I went to get Gyros at a stand nearby our hostel and the Vendor asked if I was American and when I replied yes he started to dance and sing "Barack, Barack" over and over and then he gave me extra meat on my gyros just for being American!!! If that is not a plus already from Barack being the new President then I just don't know what else would be..I mean all that other stuff we vote for doesn't really matter as long as Europeans like us again and give us extra meat in our food right?! I know, Deep Thoughts of Kinsey Davis, it really should be a book.

I had chicken shawarma today. I'm in love!

I can add that to the list of good things that might come about due to an Obama presidency, more meat on our gyros. I like it.

I had all of these witty and funny things to write about your post but the minute the music stopped so did my brain....so just know that for a second I was really funny.

I fiind it interesting how all of your heartfelt beliefs have some sort of conection to a really great food experience! I guess it keeps things in perspective.

Last night I was thinking of some of your comments on this post and other things I've heard and I had a thought. I think it is a dangerous concept to base our status as a country based on the opinions of the outside world. If we had that thought process as members of the church then we would immediately become of the world rather then just living in it. Take France for example, they hated and hate us for the whole Iraq thing. Come to find out they had millions in government contracts with Sadam. I'm not sure I would want to seek their approval if you know what I mean. Although it is nice to be liked....I think we have to question ourselves when Hugo Chavez among other socialist leaders is happy about our nations presidential pick. Just a thought:)

I've heard a lot of people talking about Obama being elected president. Some have talked about it like it's the end of the world and others have talked about it like it the next best thing since sliced bread. I really try to take an objective view of it all. Truth is, no president we elect is going to do and be everything we want. So I try to find the positive in the situation. Worldwide relations are going to improve, we've managed to vote a black person into office, and the voice of the people has spoken. I think what needs to happen now is we need to set partisan biases aside and come together as a nation. Call foul when it's needed and celebrate when successes occur. My thoughts. P.S. If Obama is responsible for getting you more good food, I must admit, that's pretty freakin' awesome.
